The White Privilege: Pt. 1 Appearance-Hair

Preface: The title alone may make you shutter, roll your eyes and think, “Oh, here we go… AGAIN,” but I wouldn’t be true to myself if I didn’t write what I was thinking…. in my blog. My blog tends to get views from my Twitter fam, but lately my Facebook fam has been chiming in, too. Facebook has allowed for a generation of people to spew their ill-considered thoughts and this is why I usually go to WordPress to express myself. A “like” or rating this 4 or 5 stars is nice, but what do you THINK? This requires keys, not a mouse.

Love for YOUR perspective because YOUR perspective is YOUR reality, y’know what I mean?

So respect (didn’t say you have to agree) my opinion as I respect yours…

Slow Down… Take It All In….

I’ve recently moved from a nice 3-story apartment in über suburbia to a nice & spacious apartment in a place not so nice. I mean, it’s cool, but it’s opened my eyes to some things I’ve never seen before. I’ve noticed how many things I take for granted and things I should be thanking God everyday for.

For an example, water. That shit’s not cheap, man. If your water gets shut off you can’t flush the toilet, bathe, wash your hands, wash your hair, eat certain foods, wash your clothes, etc. Many people around us go with these things on a regular. These people could live right next door to you….

We, as a people, have developed this ‘all about me’ complex. In a world with so many people in it, there’s more factors that impact our lives than we think.. or stop to realize.

When you move out on your own or just get a few minutes to yourself, think about things. Find the beauty (and even the ugly) around you and embrace it. The next time you see your neighbor, lend a smile and a wave. Sometimes that simple gesture could be the sun in someone’s cloudy day.

The Earth is a place of many individuals, but the world is a connection of individuals making units.

Be absolute in yourself, but remember there’s a gift and a blessing within yourself meant to be shared with others.

Share.

As-Salaamu Alaykum. (Peace be unto you.)
